Calorie Deficit vs Ketosis, Our Body Prefers Ketosis – Healthy Keto Diet
Should you focus on being in a calorie deficit vs ketosis state. The issue is, when we try to decrease our caloric intake, we often reduce fat intake because fat has more calories than carbohydrates. This results in people eating large amounts of carbohydrates (usually, unknowingly). Most people do not classify rice as sugar. So when a doctor tells them to keep their sugar intake low to help stave off diabetes, they stop eating candy bars but continue to eat rice, potatoes, pasta, carrots, and all the other “healthy” carbs.
This is problematic because our body can only manage to have about 5 grams of carbs circulating in our blood at any moment in time. So to our body, sugar from candy or rice has the same negative effect on our blood sugar levels.
When we learn that these are the same, then we can make better decisions about how we will manage our health and weight. At that point, lowering the fat intake to minimize calories doesn’t make as much sense. In reality, we need to severely cut the carbohydrate intake to help our body better manage our blood sugar. By doing this, we solve multiple problems. Our inflammation issues decrease, our insulin becomes regulated, the damage that sugar does in the body is dramatically decreased, and our weight is normalized (to name a few benefits).
Gather as much information as you can about eating a healthy ketogenic lifestyle and focus your attention on what it means to be in ketosis. When you fully understand these concepts, your ability to maintain good health will be much easier.
